In 2006, USS Halsey (DDG-97) deployed on her maiden cruise as a commissioned warship — the first operational test for this Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer and her crew. Commissioned in 2005 and named for Fleet Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey Jr. — whose relentless Pacific campaign was pivotal to Allied victory in World War II — DDG-97 proved equal to the name from the very start.
