This framed photo captures USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) at Norfolk, Virginia — her primary homeport for most of her thirty-eight-year career and the largest naval base in the world. From Naval Station Norfolk's piers she launched eighteen Mediterranean deployments, sortied for the 1986 Libya strikes, deployed to the Red Sea for Operation Desert Storm in 1991, and surged to sea in the days after the September 11 attacks. Decommissioned March 23, 2007, "Big John" was the last conventionally powered supercarrier in U.S. Navy service. This framed ship photo is a tribute to her crew and the homeport that sent the Navy's last conventional supercarrier to sea.
