USS Monterey (CG-61) is a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, commissioned June 16, 1990 at Pascagoula, Mississippi and named for the 1846 Battle of Monterrey in the Mexican-American War — and the U.S. Navy's earlier Monterey carrier of World War II Pacific fame. Homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, Monterey has served the Atlantic Fleet through more than three decades of deployments including Operation Desert Storm in 1991, multiple Mediterranean cruises, and ballistic missile defense patrols supporting NATO. As an Aegis air defense platform she has stood watch alongside multiple carrier strike groups. This framed ship photo is a tribute to her crew and the legacy of one of the Atlantic Fleet's premier Aegis cruisers.
