USS Enterprise (CVN-65) — the Big E — served the United States Navy for fifty-one years, from 1961 to 2012. The world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, she was a fixture of American naval power through every major crisis and conflict of her era: the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, the Cold War, Desert Storm, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Big E may be gone from the fleet, but her legacy sails on.
