Stennis (CVN-74) is a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier commissioned in 1995, named in honor of Senator John Cornelius Stennis of Mississippi — a decades-long champion of naval power and chairman of the Armed Services Committee. Homeported in Bremerton, Washington, Stennis has deployed repeatedly to the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf, conducting strike operations and power projection with her embarked air wing.
