USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) was America's second supercarrier, commissioned on April 29, 1961 and serving the United States Navy for an extraordinary 48 years until her decommissioning in 2009. Named for the site of the Wright Brothers' first powered flight, Kitty Hawk deployed throughout the Pacific Fleet and saw combat service during the Vietnam War and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
