USS Kitty Hawk was commissioned on April 29, 1961 as CVA-63 — Attack Aircraft Carrier — and served with distinction throughout the Cold War era. During her Vietnam-era deployments she conducted intensive combat flight operations from Yankee Station in the Gulf of Tonkin. Redesignated CV-63 in 1973, she continued serving America's naval mission until 2009. This neck gaiter honors the men and women who served aboard Kitty Hawk — wear it with pride on deck or ashore.
