USS Shoup (DDG-86) completed her 2004-05 maiden deployment as a newly commissioned Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer homeported in Everett, Washington. Named for General David M. Shoup, the Marine Corps officer who earned the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary leadership during the Battle of Tarawa in November 1943 and later served as Commandant of the Marine Corps, she carried a proud legacy on her first deployment. Her crew established the ship's identity and operational reputation during this historic first cruise. This sweatshirt commemorates that maiden deployment.
