By the fall of 1966, the air war over North Vietnam had become one of the most intense sustained bombing campaigns in American history, and USS Enterprise (CVAN-65) was again in the thick of it. Carrier Air Wing Nine flew hundreds of combat sorties against bridges, power plants, rail yards, and supply routes — battling MiGs and surface-to-air missiles to strike targets deep inside North Vietnam. The Big E's crew endured the strain of continuous operations in a war that was growing in both scale and controversy back home, never wavering in their commitment to the men on the ground who depended on air support. Their service deserves to be remembered.
