USS Forrestal (CV-59) Spiral Notebook

USS Forrestal (CV-59) was the first supercarrier built from the keel up for jet aircraft, commissioned in 1955 and named for the first U.S. Secretary of Defense. She served nearly four decades before decommissioning in 1993, deploying to the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Tonkin during Vietnam. In 1967, a catastrophic flight deck fire killed 134 sailors, leading to sweeping safety reforms across the fleet.
