In 2008, USS George Washington (CVN-73) participated in the Annual Exercise (ANNUALEX), a major multinational naval exercise conducted in the Western Pacific alongside the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. As GW settled into her historic forward-deployed role at Yokosuka, these exercises cemented the U.S.-Japan alliance and demonstrated the combined strength of two great naval powers.
