USS George Washington

Commissioned in 1992, the George Washington made history as the first nuclear-powered carrier permanently forward-deployed overseas, homeported at Yokosuka, Japan. For years she was the tip of the spear in the Western Pacific, conducting operations from the Sea of Japan to the South China Sea. To the port towns that welcomed her crew and to the sailors who called Yokosuka home, CVN-73 represents the enduring American commitment in the Pacific.
