USS Higgins (DDG-76) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer commissioned in 1999 and named for Colonel William R. Higgins, a Marine Corps officer and United Nations peacekeeper who was captured and killed by Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon in 1990. His sacrifice in the service of peace stands as a lasting tribute to American commitment to international security. Homeported in San Diego, Higgins has deployed to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean in support of Pacific Fleet operations.
