Her 1981 Western Pacific deployment kept her at the forefront of American naval power during the early Reagan administration's military buildup. Operating with Carrier Air Wing Eleven, Kitty Hawk conducted sustained operations across the Western Pacific as the U.S. Navy reasserted its global presence.
