USS Midway (CV-41) is one of the most celebrated warships in American naval history. Commissioned on September 10, 1945 — just days after the end of World War II — Midway served for an unmatched 47 years, the longest of any 20th-century American carrier. She served in the Western Pacific, earned battle stars in the Vietnam War, and led naval air forces during Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
