USS Mitscher (DDG-57) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer named for Admiral Marc A. Mitscher, one of the most celebrated carrier-aviation commanders in American history, whose Fast Carrier Task Force struck deep into Japanese-held territory during World War II and proved decisive at the Philippine Sea and Leyte Gulf. Homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, Mitscher has deployed with the Sixth Fleet, providing Aegis air defense and Tomahawk strike capability.
