USS Oscar Austin (DDG-79) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer named for Private First Class Oscar P. Austin, a Marine killed near Da Nang, Vietnam, in 1969 while shielding a wounded fellow Marine from a grenade — posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. Homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, Oscar Austin has deployed with the Sixth Fleet, providing Aegis air defense and Tomahawk strike capability across the Atlantic and European waters.
