USS Ouellet (FF-1077) was a Knox-class anti-submarine warfare frigate commissioned on December 12, 1970, and named in honor of Ensign Joseph C. Ouellet, USNR, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism in Vietnam. On February 6, 1969, an enemy grenade landed among the crew of his river patrol boat in the Mekong Delta; Ensign Ouellet threw himself on the grenade, absorbing the blast and giving his life to save his shipmates. The Knox-class frigates were the primary anti-submarine warfare escorts of the 1970s, and Ouellet served her Navy with distinction across more than two decades of Cold War deployments. She was decommissioned on April 30, 1993. This sweatshirt features the official ship's crest and is a tribute to all who served aboard a ship bearing the name of a man whose final act was to give his life for those around him.
