USS Pinckney (DDG-91) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer named for William Pinckney, a Navy steward awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism aboard USS Enterprise (CV-6) during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in 1942 — one of the first Black sailors to receive the decoration. Homeported in San Diego, California, Pinckney has deployed to the Western Pacific with the Seventh Fleet, conducting operations in the South China Sea and broader Indo-Pacific.
