USS Princeton (CG-59) is a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser commissioned on February 11, 1989, and homeported in San Diego, California. Named for the Battle of Princeton (1777), a pivotal American victory during the Revolutionary War, she earned distinction — and great sacrifice — during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. On February 18, 1991, Princeton struck two mines laid by Iraqi forces while operating in the northern Persian Gulf, suffering significant damage but remaining afloat through the heroic efforts of her crew. After emergency repairs, she returned to service and was fully restored. This sweatshirt commemorates the crew of the 1991 WESTPAC/IO/Persian Gulf deployment and honors their courage and resilience in combat.
