USS Sampson (DDG-102) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer named for Rear Admiral William Thomas Sampson, who commanded the North Atlantic Squadron during the Spanish-American War; his fleet destroyed the Spanish squadron at the Battle of Santiago de Cuba in 1898, effectively ending Spain's naval power in the Western Hemisphere. Homeported in Everett, Washington, Sampson has deployed to the Western Pacific with the Seventh Fleet.
