USS Seawolf (SSN-21) is the lead boat of the Seawolf class of fast attack nuclear submarines, commissioned on July 19, 1997. Designed during the Cold War as an answer to the Soviet Navy's most capable submarines, Seawolf represents a leap in underwater warfare technology — faster, deeper-diving, and more heavily armed than the Los Angeles class she was built to surpass. Due to post-Cold War defense cuts, only three Seawolf-class boats were completed. Homeported in Bremerton, Washington, she remains one of the most capable attack submarines ever built.
