USS Yorktown (CVS-10) earned the nickname "The Fighting Lady" for her combat record in World War II and Vietnam. Commissioned in 1943 to replace the original Yorktown (CV-5) lost at Midway, she went on to earn 11 battle stars in the Pacific War. She later served as recovery ship for the Apollo 8 crew in December 1968 before decommissioning in 1970. Today she is preserved as a museum ship at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
