USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) Spiral Notebook

The USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) was an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate of the United States Navy, commissioned on December 12, 1986. On April 14, 1988, she struck an Iranian mine in the Persian Gulf, nearly sinking — but her crew saved her through extraordinary damage control. Her survival enabled Operation Praying Mantis the following day, the largest U.S. Navy surface engagement since World War II.
