USS Farragut (DDG-99) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer commissioned in 2006 and named for Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, the Civil War naval hero whose famous order — "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" — defined American naval courage at the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864. The first officer to hold the ranks of Admiral and Vice Admiral, Farragut remains one of the Navy's greatest heroes. The ship is homeported in Mayport, Florida, and has deployed to the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf.
