USS Fitzgerald (DDG-62) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer commissioned in 1995 and named for Lieutenant William C. Fitzgerald Jr., a Navy fighter pilot killed in action in Vietnam. Homeported in Yokosuka, Japan, Fitzgerald has deployed throughout the Western Pacific. Following a collision with a container ship in June 2017 that killed seven sailors, the ship was rebuilt and returned to service — a testament to the Navy's commitment to her crew's memory and her continued mission.
