USS Mars (AFS-1) was the lead ship of the Mars class of combat stores ships, commissioned in 1963 and named for the Roman god of war. Purpose-built to supply the fleet with dry cargo, provisions, and spare parts, she replenished surface combatants, carrier battle groups, and amphibious ready groups across the Pacific and Indian Ocean. She was decommissioned in 1998.
