Operation Iraqi Freedom opened with the most concentrated Tomahawk cruise missile barrage in history, and Ticonderoga-class cruisers played a central role in that campaign. Named for the Allied assault that cracked the Italian front in 1944, Anzio brought that same punching power to the Persian Gulf — firing precision weapons at regime targets as coalition forces swept toward Baghdad.
