USS Boone (FFG-28) was an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate commissioned on May 15, 1982, and named for American frontier legend Daniel Boone. Homeported in Mayport, Florida, she was a dependable combatant of the Cold War and post-Cold War era — participating in NATO exercises, counter-narcotics operations in the Caribbean, and Atlantic surface warfare patrols throughout her 13-year service life. Swift, capable, and always ready, Boone upheld the finest traditions of American surface warfare until her decommissioning on September 29, 1995.
