Few Mediterranean deployments have matched the historical significance of the 2011-12 cruise. The Arab Spring toppled governments across the region, Libya plunged into civil war, and Operation Odyssey Dawn brought coalition airpower to bear to enforce a UN no-fly zone. When USS Cape St. George (CG-71) was operating in those waters, May 2, 2011 brought word of Osama bin Laden's death — a moment that reverberated through every Navy command. The crew of the 2011-12 MED watched history being made and contributed to it. This shirt honors their service aboard CG-71.
