By 2008, the U.S. Navy had been operating on a continuous wartime footing for nearly seven years. USS Chancellorsville (CG-62) deployed to the Western Pacific in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, providing Aegis air defense and theater ballistic missile defense for strike groups operating across the region. With hard-won gains being secured in Iraq and China's regional ambitions growing, Chancellorsville's crew served at the intersection of two defining challenges of their generation — and met every one with distinction.
