In 1987, USS Constellation (CV-64) deployed during one of the most active periods of the late Cold War. Operation Earnest Will was underway in the Persian Gulf — the U.S. Navy escorting Kuwaiti oil tankers through waters where the Iran-Iraq Tanker War had made the sea lanes a hazard. Constellation and her battle group stood as the presence that mattered, projecting airpower in a region where it counted. The 1987 crew served aboard a 26-year-old supercarrier that still answered every bell, keeping America's commitments clear and the sea lanes open.
