In 1994-95, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) deployed to the Adriatic Sea as NATO enforced the United Nations no-fly zone over Bosnia-Herzegovina. With ethnic cleansing scarring the Balkans and the world watching, Ike's embarked air wing stood ready to enforce Operation Deny Flight — the allied mandate to ground Bosnian Serb aircraft and prevent further atrocities.
