December 1972 — Operation Linebacker II brought the full fury of American airpower to North Vietnam in the most sustained bombing campaign since World War II. USS Enterprise (CVAN-65) and her Carrier Air Wing flew day and night alongside B-52 Stratofortresses, striking targets around Hanoi and Haiphong until Hanoi agreed to return to peace negotiations. The Paris Peace Accords were signed January 27, 1973. The Big E's 1972-73 cruise ended with the war's end — her Sailors part of the generation that saw it through to the finish, whatever the cost. Honor their service. Honor The Big E.
