Operation Linebacker II — December 1972. USS Enterprise and her Carrier Air Wing Six flew around the clock alongside B-52 Stratofortresses, hammering North Vietnamese targets in the most concentrated air campaign of the entire Vietnam War. Hanoi and Haiphong felt the full weight of American air power. Weeks later, on January 27, 1973, the Paris Peace Accords were signed, bringing an end to direct American combat operations in Vietnam. Enterprise had served from the very first strikes in 1965 to the final chapter — a Navy record no other carrier could match.
