The 2004 maiden deployment of USS Howard (DDG-83) marked the ship's first major operational deployment following her commissioning in November 2003. Operating in the Western Pacific and Middle East, Howard's crew proved their readiness in support of post-9/11 maritime security operations and coalition efforts throughout the region. Named for Gunnery Sergeant Jimmie E.
