Ship Specs

USS Independence (CVA-62) — later redesignated CV-62 — was commissioned on January 10, 1959 as one of the Navy's most powerful attack carriers. Known affectionately as "Indy," she served through the Cuban Missile Crisis, multiple Vietnam War deployments, the Iranian hostage crisis, and Operation Desert Shield/Storm before decommissioning in 1998 after nearly four decades of distinguished service.
