USS John S. McCain (DDG-56) completed her 1995-96 maiden deployment as one of the early Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, named in honor of both Admiral John S. McCain Sr. and Vice Admiral John S. McCain Jr. — two generations of Navy flag officers who served their country with distinction in World War II. From her first deployment, McCain proved herself a capable AEGIS-equipped warship ready for the full spectrum of naval operations.
