USS Merrill (DD-976) Ship's Crest Sweatshirt

USS Merrill (DD-976) was a Spruance-class destroyer commissioned in December 1978 and named for Rear Admiral Aaron Stanton Merrill, who commanded a cruiser-destroyer force in the Solomon Islands campaign during World War II. Homeported in San Diego, Merrill deployed regularly to the Western Pacific and participated in operations in the Persian Gulf region during the late Cold War era. The Spruance class was known for its anti-submarine warfare capabilities and gas turbine propulsion. Merrill was decommissioned in 1998.
