USS Oriskany (CVA-34) made her final Western Pacific deployments in 1975-76, a bittersweet era in the history of American naval power in Southeast Asia. In April 1975, the fall of Saigon brought the Vietnam War to its tragic conclusion, and American carriers in the region played a crucial role in the evacuation of refugees and the final withdrawal of American personnel from South Vietnam. Oriskany participated in operations during this historic and somber period, her crew bearing witness to the end of a decade-long commitment. Following these final deployments, Oriskany was decommissioned on September 30, 1976, bringing to a close one of the most distinguished combat records in the history of American carrier aviation. The Mighty O had served through Korea, the Cold War, and Vietnam, and the men who wore her patch wore it with hard-won pride. This sweatshirt honors those who made the final WESTPAC voyages aboard her.
