USS Port Royal (CG-73) is a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser commissioned on July 9, 1994, and homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Named for the decisive 1861 Union naval victory at the Battle of Port Royal, she has served as a key Aegis air defense platform throughout her career in the Pacific Fleet. During the 2001-02 WESTPAC/IO deployment commemorated by this sweatshirt, Port Royal deployed to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean in the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks, contributing to Operation Enduring Freedom and maintaining critical carrier strike group defense as coalition forces responded to the attacks on the United States.
