USS Porter (DDG-78) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer commissioned on March 20, 1999, and homeported in Rota, Spain. Named in honor of Commodore David Porter and Rear Admiral David D. Porter, two of the most distinguished naval officers in American history, she is equipped with the Aegis Combat System and armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles and Standard Missiles. This sweatshirt commemorates Porter's 2000-01 maiden deployment — her first operational deployment as a commissioned warship — during which she conducted carrier strike group operations in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
