USS Ranger (CVA-61) was a Forrestal-class attack carrier commissioned August 10, 1957 at Newport News Shipbuilding. Homeported at NAS Alameda, California, Ranger served as one of the Pacific Fleet's premier attack carriers through three decades and nine deployments to the Western Pacific. She flew combat missions from the Gulf of Tonkin in Operations Pierce Arrow, Rolling Thunder, Linebacker I, and Linebacker II, earning her place as one of the Navy's most decorated Vietnam-era carriers. Redesignated CV-61 in 1975, Ranger continued serving through Desert Storm before decommissioning July 10, 1993.
