USS Reuben James (FFG-57) was an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigate commissioned March 22, 1986. Homeported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Reuben James conducted deployments throughout the Pacific and Middle East as an escort and ASW platform. The ship carries a storied name: Reuben James was a hero of the First Barbary War (1804) who shielded Stephen Decatur from a sword blow with his own body.
