USS San Jacinto (CG-56) is a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser commissioned on January 23, 1988. Named for the Battle of San Jacinto that won Texas independence in 1836, San Jacinto made history on January 17, 1991, when she launched the first Tomahawk cruise missiles of Operation Desert Storm, striking Iraqi targets as the Gulf War commenced. Homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, CG-56 deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm as part of the international coalition that liberated Kuwait. This sweatshirt honors the Sailors of USS San Jacinto who served during that historic 1990-91 deployment.
