USS Saratoga (CV-60) 1976 Cruise Sweatshirt

The USS Saratoga (CV-60) was a Forrestal-class aircraft carrier commissioned on April 14, 1956, and homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Florida. Named for the Battles of Saratoga in 1777, which proved the turning point of the American Revolution by bringing France into the war on the American side, she carried that proud name through nearly four decades of Cold War service. During the 1976 Mediterranean deployment, Saratoga and her embarked Carrier Air Wing operated as a core element of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, projecting American sea power throughout the Mediterranean basin at a critical moment in Cold War competition. This sweatshirt honors all who served aboard Saratoga during the 1976 cruise.
