USS Saratoga (CV-60) 1987 Cruise Sweatshirt

The USS Saratoga (CV-60) was a Forrestal-class aircraft carrier commissioned on April 14, 1956, and homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Florida. Named for the 1777 Battles of Saratoga that proved the turning point of the American Revolution. The 1987 Mediterranean deployment came during the height of the Tanker War in the Persian Gulf, with U.S. forces escorting reflagged Kuwaiti tankers under Operation Earnest Will and tensions throughout the Middle East running high. Saratoga and her Carrier Air Wing maintained Sixth Fleet readiness and presence throughout a strategically demanding period. This sweatshirt commemorates the crew of USS Saratoga who served during the 1987 cruise.
