The USS Saratoga (CVA-60) was a Forrestal-class attack carrier commissioned on April 14, 1956, and homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Florida. Named for the decisive 1777 Battles of Saratoga. The 1960-61 Mediterranean deployment unfolded against the backdrop of Eisenhower's final year in office and Kennedy's arrival, as Cold War tensions remained high and the Sixth Fleet maintained its essential deterrent presence across the Mediterranean. Saratoga and her embarked air wing flew continuous readiness operations throughout the cruise. This sweatshirt honors the crew who served aboard USS Saratoga during the 1960-61 deployment.
