The USS Saratoga (CVA-60) was a Forrestal-class attack carrier commissioned on April 14, 1956, and homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Florida. Named for the 1777 Battles of Saratoga. The 1967 Mediterranean deployment was among the most dramatic in Saratoga's career. In June 1967, the Six-Day War erupted between Israel and its Arab neighbors, and the USS Liberty was attacked by Israeli forces during the conflict. The Sixth Fleet carriers, including Saratoga, remained at heightened readiness throughout the crisis as tensions across the entire Mediterranean reached a flashpoint. This sweatshirt honors the crew who served aboard USS Saratoga during the intense 1967 cruise.
