USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) is the ninth ship of the Nimitz class, commissioned July 12, 2003 at Newport News, Virginia and named for the 40th President of the United States. With the motto "Peace Through Strength" — drawn from President Reagan's foreign-policy doctrine — she is one of the only U.S. Navy carriers to have been christened by a living First Lady, with Nancy Reagan breaking the bottle in 2001. From 2015 to 2024 she was forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan as the U.S. 7th Fleet's on-station carrier, succeeding USS George Washington in the role. Her career has included Operation Iraqi Freedom support, multiple Western Pacific deployments, and humanitarian assistance during Operation Tomodachi following Japan's 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Now homeported at NAS North Island in San Diego, Reagan continues to anchor the Pacific Fleet's carrier force. This framed ship photo is a tribute to her crew and the legacy of "Peace Through Strength" at sea.
